Broke and Bones, a U.K.-based production company founded by the minds behind Black Mirror, Charlie Brooker, and Annabel Jones, reportedly received funding from Netflix, according to Deadline.
The deal will resolve with Netflix eventually acquiring the production company completely over the course of five years for an estimated $100 million USD, giving them exclusive rights over its series and projects. This marks the first time Netflix made an investment in a U.K.-based company, and despite the company having been founded earlier in February, the deal between Brooker and Jones and Netflix is said to have begun almost a year ago.
Sadly for Black Mirror fans, this doesn’t mean a new season any time soon, as Brooker explained earlier in May: “At the moment, I don’t know what stomach there would be for stories about societies falling apart, so I’m not working away on one of those,” he remarked on the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, and society already feeling dystopian enough. “I’m sort of keen to revisit my comic skill set, so I’ve been writing scripts aimed at making myself laugh.”
